ESPN 30 for 30: Fernando Nation

Much of my book focuses on Fernandomania, when Fernando Valenzuela helped lead the '81 Dodgers to a World Series championship while winning the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards.  I was fortunate enough to be featured in Fernando Nation, part of ESPN Films' Emmy-nominated 30 for 30 documentary series, as an uber-fan recounting those halcyon days.  My stash of radio and TV recordings of Fernando were also utilized throughout the show.

Here's a snippet from Fernando Nation in which Mark Langill, Mike Brito and yours truly talk about Opening Day at Dodger Stadium, when Fernando was a last-minute replacement for Jerry Reuss... and never looked back.
If you haven't seen it, the producers did a great job bottling the magic, and Fernando gives rare, extensive interviews. If you miss the repeats on ESPN, the DVD is available on Amazon.

"In a wooooorrrld...."

One man.  One voice.  Two lefties.  Together.  As One.

30 for 30 Shorts: The High Five

The birth of the high five and the rise and fall of Glenn Burke are chronicled in this terrific short.  Yours truly lent radio recordings from my archives to the cause...

Watch it on Grantland.
